Note Worthy Life Interview
Sara Juli : Pause and Reflect
In our latest installment of Note Worthy Life, I had the pleasure of sitting down with the dynamic performance artist, Sara Juli. Known for her fearless exploration of personal narratives through dance, comedy, and storytelling, Sara delves into topics often considered taboo. Her works, such as Tense Vagina: an actual diagnosis and Burnt-Out Wife, not only entertain but also challenge societal norms, inviting audiences to engage in conversations about motherhood, marriage, and the female experience.
She emphasized the importance of authenticity and vulnerability in her performances, aiming to create a space where audiences can see reflections of their own lives. Sara's approach to art is deeply personal, often drawing from her own experiences to craft narratives that resonate on a universal level. Her commitment to blending humor with poignant storytelling allows her to tackle complex subjects with grace and relatability.
During our conversation, Sara shared not only the inspirations behind her provocative pieces but struggles she faces as a creative with pressure to keep turning out new work. We identified the negative self talk that is chattering in her mind and figured out what phrase to replace it with. Then I went on to create a new piece for the series Note Worthy Life that reflects this desired transformation.
